Triumph and Tragedy Book Signing
Wednesday, October 13th, 2010 | Book Signing, Books, Speaking
Mike Chapman will hold a book signing for his new book Triumph and Tragedy: The Inspiring Stories of Football Legends Fred Becker, Jack Trice, Nile Kinnick and Johnny Bright, at Beaverdale Books in Des Moines on Monday, October 25.
Beaverdale Books store, a beautiful store located at 2629 Beaver Avenue in Des Moines. The event starts at 6:30 with a brief speech by Mike about the four Iowa icons, and then a question-and-answer period, followed by the book signing.
Everyone is welcome to come and look over a small selection of Mike’s other books – including Lowell Park. That is a historical novel published in 2006 that revolves around a young college graduate student who travels back in time to meet “Dutch” Reagan in 1932 as a lifeguard in Lowell Park, a beautiful 400-acre park on the Rock River near his hometown of Dixon, Illinois. But the time machine malfunctions and she winds up in the very same location – but in 1832, where a young Abe Lincoln is involved in the Black Hawk Wars!
The movie rights to Lowell Park have been purchased by a Hollywood company and is now in pre-production. A highly-successful film director has signed on to the project. Mike will be in Dixon the last week in October to meet with the director to discuss the script and location shooting.
Mike will also be speaking to a group of retired teachers in Iowa City on October 27.
Mike was the featured speaker at two recent events — one in Burlington and one in Iowa City at the Kirkwood Community College campus. Here is what Cindy Henry of the Burlington Library said about his presentation:
The crowd loved hearing Mike Chapman talk about Iowans of Impact at our “Specifically for Seniors” program. He’s a dynamic speaker and the depth of his research shows in all the fascinating details he shares about his subjects. As the people were leaving, one lady said,
“I could listen to him for two more hours!”
Persons wishing to have Mike speak at their event can call 641-792-0920 to see about details, or email him at museum@pcpartner.net.
